A Message from MYSO Founding Music Director and Conductor Les Marsden

Dear Friends:
What better place to spend April than in Paris? Well then: April in Paris it IS, with YOUR Mariposa Yosemite Symphony Orchestra - (apologies to Count Basie and Vernon Duke, of course.)

The DATES:

-Saturday at 7 PM in Mariposa.
-Sunday at 2 PM in Yosemite, at the Yosemite Valley Lodge.

Location details below.
-Hector Berlioz: "Roman Carnival Overture"
-Maurice Ravel: "Valses Nobles et Sentimentales"
-Hector Berlioz: "Symphonie Fantastique"

As for that program? Well - it's a pretty remarkable one. April in Paris? Well - sure! The two composers studied at the Paris Conservatoire, were Parisians (each of their time) to the core, and all three pieces on this program premiered in Paris. And oh, what music!

(Detailed Concert Program notes from Maestro Les Marsden to come very soon in this spot.)

Dates information:

Saturday, April 27 at 7 PM in the Grandpa Doug Pearse Student Center at the Mariposa Alternative Education Campus (formerly Mariposa Middle School) located at 5171 Silva Road in Bootjack. A mere 3.7 miles south on Highway 49 from town to Silva Road, and then only .8 of a mile up Silva to the campus.

THAT concert requires ADVANCE ONLINE PURCHASE tickets (check out the link in the column at left or the button above this message) to take advantage of our low rate of only $10 for adults and $8 for students. You don't need to print anything out; purchasers' names go onto our master audience verifier and names will be checked off at the door. Those who wish to show up at the door on Saturday night to purchase tickets on the spot will note that the price increases to $15 for adults and $10 for students.

And:

Sunday, April 28 as a 2 PM matinee in Yosemite Valley at the Yosemite Valley Lodge's Garden Terrace (room.) Unfortunately, continuing work on the Ahwahnee Hotel delays our return there until this October...if THEN! But in the meanwhile, the large Garden Terrace's acoustics should provide for a great venue. PLEASE NOTE: Our Sunday, April 28th 2 PM matinee concert in the Garden Terrace at Yosemite Valley Lodge, located at 9000 Yosemite Valley (Northside) Drive near Yosemite Falls is a free concert, but a $10 per person donation to help relieve our costs is gently suggested.

Important to note: the Yosemite Reservations System will be in effect that weekend, so those planning to drive private vehicles into the park for the concert must obtain advance reservations in addition to using an annual or permanent pass or paying the Park Entrance Fee at the gate(s). For reservations, go to https://rec.gov and create an account. See "sign-in/log-in" in the upper right of screen. Once signed in, go to https://www.recreation.gov/timed-entry/10086745/ticket/10086746. Enter the date: April 28, 2024 - then follow the instructions. And please leave yourself plenty of time to drive to the Lodge; if you haven't been there in awhile, the entrance has moved further along Northside Drive past the old entrance opposite Yosemite Falls. But we DO encourage you to dine at the Lodge: the Garden Terrace is directly between the Base Camp Eatery and the Mountain Room Lounge, which is one of my favorite dining spots in the Valley - take a look at what the Lodge has to offer before or after our concert - https://www.travelyosemite.com/dining/yosemite-valley-lodge. We can't wait to offer you this music - which is all pretty spectacular. So see you at either location - or both - the final weekend in April!
